The Hard Truth
The Pressure to Keep Going
· 5 min read
There is a particular pressure that comes with building a business: when the work is meaningful, stopping can feel like failure even when stopping is the sensible decision.
Founders are often praised for persistence without being asked what persistence is costing them. The team, the customers, the investors, and the people at home can all experience the consequences of a decision that only one person is expected to carry.
The answer is not to remove pressure. It is to make the pressure useful — to separate a difficult season from a bad direction, and to know which problems require more effort and which require a different choice.
Keeping going matters. So does knowing what you are actually trying to preserve.
